Jala Neti v Naspoure
The pluses of Nasopure are:
+ More forceful flushing, ideal for blockages and greater build-up of mucus, etc
+ Convenience of being able to make up enough solution for several days use.
+ Ideal for children as no special head position is required.
+ The process is a lot quicker than Jala Neti, especially in the case of a blockage.
+ Devised and formulated by a qualified Paediatrician in the USA.
The negatives of Nasopure are:
- Some people may find it difficult to close their throat enough to stop the solution from entering the mouth.
- As the solution passes through the nasal cavity fairly quickly, the cleansing benefits of the salt, or any properties of added Neti Wash or essential oils are reduced.
- Pressure can cause ears to block if the bottle is squeezed too hard.
The pluses of Jala Neti are:
+ Proven results from centuries of traditional use.
+ Greater effects from salt cleansing and any properties of added essential oils/Neti Wash, as the flow of solution is slower.
+ Relaxed, gentle process
+ More comfortable as only the natural force of gravity is used to encourage the flow of water (although this would depend on the user)
The negatives of Jala Neti
- Could take a few days to become accustomed to the practice.
- In the case of a blackage, it may take several attempts to gain water flow out of the opposite nostril. Perseverance is the key, but this can lead to frustration at the start.
- Solution cannot be stored in a Neti Pot as they are all open topped.
Personally, our family have found the benefits of owning both systems. We would recommend using Nasopure to start if there is a blockage, and for after a cold or sinus infection, as it is more efficient in clearing blockages in the nasal passages more quickly. For daily use and maintenance, and during sinus infections, we would recommend the gentler, more relaxed cleansing of Jala Neti.
